At Hecla Greens Creek, we commit to the highest standards of environmental stewardship, prioritizing people, investing in education, and continuing our legacy of long-lived mine production.
Setting the highest standards.
As the only mine within a protected national monument, we hold ourselves to a higher standard. Every day we work hard to keep our footprint small by recycling our waste, conserving water and utilizing a dry stack tailings system. We also use hydropower whenever it’s available. It’s all part of our commitment to go beyond what’s required.
Our People: Smart. Strong. Resilient.
As an essential industry, we kept operating throughout the pandemic to produce the essential metals America needs. That put a heavy burden on our people who had to endure extra-long shifts and quarantines. But they outperformed — as they always do — by working safer and increasing silver production.
Longevity is key to our success.
Hecla is a company known for our long-lived mine production that builds strong communities. This is the Greens Creek’s 35th year of contributing to the Juneau economy, and we continue to increase production and invest in our community. At Hecla, we’re in it for the long haul.
Investing in our future through education.
An investment in education is an investment in an individual’s life and livelihood, so we invest in programs that meet the needs of those who live in our communities. These include our Pathways to Mining Careers Program and our new endowment for UAS’ Environmental Studies Program. These are the type of programs that build regional capacity and change people’s lives.
